Recently in a blog post we pointed out that Daijiro Yoshihara and his Pontiac GTO were sporting some Verizon Wireless stickers here. To one better this sponsorship announcement it seems like the mobile phone giant wants to back it’s sponsorship with some activation by hosting Drifting content on it’s V-Cast sports channel. Sadly we have a 3G iPhone like everyone else and might have to sign up for a new Verizon phone at Irwindale just to check out this great content. Anyone on the Verizon network who checks this out we would love feedback and to possibly publish what is going on at this Drifting V-Cast. Just search spots under V-cast.

These are spy shots from Terminal Island where members of Redbull, Formula D, and IMG met to plan out and look at the location for the Redbull World Championship event in November. If you look closely at the second photo at Jim Liaw’s (on the right) clipboard, you can see two track designs that potentially might wind up as the Formula D track for the weekend? Both designs have a huge high speed entry first turn and look like they would provide plenty of entertainment.

Check out JTP and his National Wave Mazda Rx-7 that got featured at Mazda USA’s website. It is always nice to see Drifting with some major exposure and support from a car manufacturer. They feature a full profile on Justin and his Rx-7 including a picture gallery of his car.

The Rogue Status crew joined everyone again for Formula D Sonoma and produced a great 10 minute video of them having fun. They do a great job documenting Ken Gushi and his travels over the weekend. A very entertaining production and we would expect no less ever.

A new addition to the roster of sponsors involved with Drifting appeared quietly over the Round 6 weekend in Sonoma. Daijiro Yoshihara was sporting some Verizon Wireless decals on the GTO. Possibly we can see a cell phone battle going on in the Formula D series as the sport is quite a target demographic to the cell phone companies. They can also see it as a great chance to get involved with American motorsports since NASCAR has managed to ban/sue everyone else out of the sport through Sprint/Nextel. According to Dai’s blog his sponsorship with Verizon carries through to Irwindale and the Redbull World Challenge. Very cool and congrats Dai!

Born and raised in the midst of the Scandinavian countryside, Fredric’s Dad quickly introduced him to the Norwegian rally scene. As a youngster he was let into a go-kart, and proved his car control skills at an early age being very fast under slippery conditions. Discovering drifting as a 17 year old in 2002 got him hooked on the new form of motorsport, and the young Norwegian eventually got his own entry level drift car three years later.
Becoming 2007 and 2008 Nordic Drifting Series Champion with Team Japan Auto and pulling consecutive qualification poles and podium finishes in the 2008 Pro Drift European Series have led the way to his US debut at the 2008 Red Bull Drifting World Championship in Long Beach, CA. Being very enthusiastic about the art of drifting and eager to take on new challenges, Fredric is a guy who goes all in whenever he gets the chance.
