We are sure somehow this will probably change. If you notice, we have TWO D1 drivers on this list contrary to our story about D1 not coming to the Redbull Championship. It appears after some digging and receiving some phone calls from various Japanese hoons that one of the reasons D1 is not coming out in full force is due to financial troubles on the home front in Japan. Weather that is truth or a cover it doesn’t seem to bare well for the D1 Grand Prix series. Anyways, here is the list, Kyle Mohan has been added since Ryan Tuerck could not make it due to financial reasons which we reported on earlier.

The last round of the 2008 D1 Grand Prix season took place at Fuji Speedway and it was an intense round of Drifting. Many drivers did battle for a championship run and only one man wound up taking the crown in his JZX100. Daigo Satiro secured the championship over the weekend and Dino locked us in with the best D1 coverage in North America. Don’t miss Team Orange and all the other Drifting crews on this high speed entry drifting course. Be sure to check out all of our 300+ photos from the weekend.

The points race is a close one going into Fuji Speedway.

Watch this black Ford Mustang enter into the turn while being followed by one of the BFGoodrich Pontiac GTO’s and before you know it the Mustang spins and BAM! This video was shot and submitted to us from a fan filming this season at Drift Mania. They just closed their season for 2008 but we look forward to following them all through 2009. You can even hear our favorite Drifting voice Jarod DeAnda in the background.

It was planned that our container should be loaded and put on the ship
on Wednesday. Unfortunately we suddenly encountered a not so friendly
customs official who decided that our shipping documents were not in
order and blocked the container from loading. We found this strange
because we had everything double checked by the transport company.
Apparently, one signature was missing. If he had bothered to phone us
we could have solved the problem within 10 minutes and given him a
signature. As it was, they didn’t bother to phone until the ship was
already gone and our container sat by itself on the loading area.
I won’t describe what I said at that moment, but it’s certainly
something I can’t mention here..!!..
The last 2 days we’ve been busy looking at other possibilities to get
our cars to the States and we seem to have found a solution.
Shipping direct to LongBeach takes too long. Another new solution is
to drop the container in Savannah, and that will save us time because
the
ship doesn’t need to carry our container all the way around to
Longbeach. Problem is, we are then on the wrong side of the USA.
It’s a very tight schedule and may not go wrong at any stage, but our
transport agent says it can be done.
Our container leaves on Tuesday and will go directly to Savannah but
somehow our cars have to get over to the west coast.
2 truck drivers will be standing by to drive across the States meaning
a journey of no less than 5000Km for delivery in LongBeach.
They say it can be there by the 12th, maybe a little earlier.
It’s absolutely crazy, and several times I had to ask myself “What the
hell are we doing?” Paul Vlasblom wanted to quit based on his bad
experiences last year at Irwindale and I was almost ready to agree
after this latest setback.
After a lot of discussion with Paul en Mr Pieter Poppelaars of RR
Holland who organised and paid almost all the transport for us, we
decide to go for it.
If there’s no headwind, the captain doesn’t get sick, the ship’s
engine is OK or it doesn’t capsize we just might make it to the east
coast,
I don’t even want to think about the road journey from Savannah to LongBeach..
If we make it..we will see you guys in Longbeach.

SVNZ produced a “how we judge” article with a four camera sectioned video showing what you should do in a run and what you shouldn’t be doing. A well put together piece on a look at the judging side of the sport. Here’s an insight showing four cars as the Stil Vodka NZ Drift Series round 4 2008, Taupo, New Zealand, explaining clipping the apex, smoke and aggression.

Flipping through the latest installment of our favorite Japanese Drifting magazine Drift Tengoku we found the American creation of the Drift Emporium inside the pages. The V8 Infiniti G35 was featured along side Kenji Yaminaka ripping the car to threads doing burnouts and generally hooning about. The spread was a very nice piece and we would love to tell you what it said but we cannot understand a word of it.
Check out video of the G35:

I have seen a ton of Drifting machines in my day but words just don’t even really come to me when I try and explain this Toyota Aristo to anyone. This has to the be the most insane thing I have ever seen. Watch in disbelief as this Aristo just melts the universe and ends up winning this contest over Ueno.
