Issue 29 is a tribute piece to the first 10 seasons of Formula Drift. Using the number 10 as a benchmark, we look at the Top 10 Unique Car Builds, Top 10 Reasons I’m A Fan, and a look at the Victories by OEM. The cover spread is the Top 10 Moments of Formula Drift which covers wrecks, thousands in cash, and even some international travel.
Issue 28 of Wrecked puts Ryan Tuerck on the front cover with his 2JZ powered Scion FR-S making big horsepower! We take a look under the hood and give you a full breakdown of what makes that Scion drift. We meet up and interview a Pro Am driver Matt Coffman who has a great story to tell and one solid drift program behind it. The season that was in DMCC gets our In Focus section along with a small update on project Mustang RTR. Wrapping up the issue is 7 tracks we think Formula Drift should expand to in the near future.
Issue 27 of Wrecked brings Michael Essa back to our cover to interview him after his first ever Formula Drift victory. Jacob Leveton writes a guest editorial on the state of the 2013 rookies and then Danny George gets put In Focus. Wrecked Lifestyle puts a focus on what our staff has deemed “track essentials” with items from Electric Visual, ReplayXD, and Otterbox. The big finale is our amazing trip to Japan for Drift Matsuri including a write up on how cheap you can participate converted already into American dollars. Our Mustang RTR gets a huge drivetrain overhaul with help from Tremec and ACT.
Issue 26 of Wrecked highlights Fredric Aasbo and his great feats during Formula Drift. After he slayed the champion during Streets of Long Beach everyone put eyes on Fredric Aasbo so we sat down to interview him. He talks about his new RS*R Toyota FT-86 powered by a NASCAR engine. We talk to Melissa Miller, a girl drifter with a Z32 in our Girl on Girl section in this issue. Our Mustang RTR gets suspension treatment and we go In Focus on the new cars of 2013. Jacob Leveton also answers 5 Questions you might have after the new season started.
Issue 25 of Wrecked highlights all the newly Formula Drift licensed drivers of 2013! We highlight Dan Savage, Nate Hamilton, Tyler Wolfson, and an additional 20+ drifters who are making moves for the 13 season. We install an ACT Clutch in our 2013 Ford Mustang RTR and let people know how we liked it after putting some test miles on it. Rathyna Gomer guest interviews Kelsey Rowlings for our new Girl on Girl segment introducing us to female drifters around the world. To wrap it all up we talk with Vegas Drift and they tell you what it takes to become a Pro Am driver in the current drift world.
Issue 24 of Wrecked highlights the biggest car swap of the 2012 season when Joon Maeng was removed from the Bergenholtz Racing team and replaced with young gun Chelsea DeNofa midseason. We sit down with both drivers and interview them on how they feel things played out. Project V8 240sx gets some SPL Suspension installed on her and our In Focus section takes a look at the Japanese drifting sensation Daigo Saito in his rookie year of Formula Drift. Wrapping up the issue is a look at the “Dogs of Drift” showing the pet owners of Formula Drift and their respective companions.
Issue 23 of Wrecked brings out one intense look book with our huge exterior issue. A huge compilation of body kits, exterior lighting, and exterior features are put together in this huge lookbook. Find out some highlights from our Project Mazda Rx-7 along with a ton of popular drift chassis. We highlight the Ford Mustang, Hyundai Genesis, Mazda Rx-7, and the Nissan 240sx for this big issue. The cover features a LS1 powered Hyundai Genesis built by the guys at Enjuku Racing in Florida featuring tons of top level products for the Hyundai brand. A new style table of contents helps for quick browsing of products by chassis as well.
Issue 22 of Wrecked marks the new face of Wrecked issues with Engine Tech. We highlight engines that are used in drift cars built from Chevrolet, Ford, Nissan, and Toyota. We investigate how to pick the right motor oil, along with how to pick an engine swap kit for your drift car. We have a project car engine swap blowout while we take a 2JZ-GTE engine and put it into a FD Mazda Rx-7 with a Tech 2 swap kit. Our LS3 E-Rod from Chevrolet Performance Parts gets put into our 1991 Nissan 240sx hatchback with the help of a swap kit from Sikky.
Wrecked Issue 21 is all about The Rookie Race. We go in depth with Odi Bakchis, Otto Graven, and Walker Wilkerson as they race to Irwindale Speedway for a Rookie of the Year prize. This is one of the first years so many impressionable standout rookies have hit the series and we highlighted their arrival with a in depth interview with each of them. We even caught up wtih Falken Team Manager J Brad for an in depth interview inside the issue.
Wrecked Issue 20 brings Team Need for Speed fan favorite Matt Powers center stage with one of the greatest interviews we have conducted in history. He talks about how he is ready to win, 2011 was the time to get serious, and why he has a LS7 engine. The 2010 Fantasy Drift overall prize winner happened to be a grassroots driver in the northwest so we swung him center stage with a write up about his driving and pursuit of drifting in his white S14.
The 2011 season has come upon us and this issue is all about us getting ready for the storm. A huge Formula Drift season preview. Eric O’Sullivan has moved from Ireland to the United States full time in pursuit of a drifting career with Gardella Racing. After a tough season in a Subaru WRX with Dynamic Autosport he has stepped into a Pontiac Solstice with Gardella Racing to try and further his racing career in the States. We sit down with him and talk about how he feels about his future. Tanner Foust leaves the sport for good and we mark it with a great End of an Era write up on his long drift career.
A new AM issue has arrived with XDC Champion Chelsea DeNofa on the cover. Wrecked sits down with him for a ten question interview giving an in depth talk about his future and BMW drift program. Heading up to Canada we sit down with Jeremy Glover for an Industry Insider interview. He happens to be the official DMCC photographer since the series inception years ago. We closed out the Quest for the Championship with Dai Yoshihara in a chillingly awesome piece about how he lost the Formula Drift championship. Project 350z came to a close and we wrapped up the Am issue with interviews for all the newly licensed Formula D drivers.
Vaughn Gittin Jr. takes home the championship and our end of season cover at Wrecked. We grab the first post championship interview with JR and he talks about his future plans after winning his first championship. Inside the issue we grab Irish star James Deane to talk about his future in the American sport and his Falken S15. We also grab another champion in Matt Waldin who won his second consecutive Drift Mania championship in 2010.
Vaughn Gittin Jr. graces the cover in our Virtual Vs. Reality cover as he slides around a 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Keeping up with American Muscle in this issue we grab Conrad Grunewald for 10 questions and talk about his Chevrolet Camaro that has such a presence on the track. We start our three issue piece with Dai Yoshihara as well called “Quest for the Championship.”
Michael Essa grabbed our cover with his BMW 335i running a V10 engine. Sadly we only captured it piled up into the wall at Long Beach for the cover image. He gave a great interview you want to check out inside the issue. 2010 rookie Dennis Mertzanis authored up an amazing piece called “The Long Road to Long Beach” talking about how a rookie put together everything to run his rookie season. We also show us building our virtual GT500.
The Drift Alliance hops on the cover to debut our new Fantasy Drift game. We provide an in depth instructional on how to play our Fantasy Drift game. Joon Maeng sat down and talked about his Formula Drift international demo visit to the Central American country of Panama. To close out the issue we hopped into a Nissan 370z and compared it with Chris Forsberg as a street car.
Another Am issue with the Canadian Ian Fournier sliding across Irwindale Speedway on the cover. We sit down with all the new blood of 2009 for an introduction into the professional ranks of drifting. Our Industry Insider this month is the famous videographer Will Roegge who talks about some of his famous video productions. Project 350z gets a Vortech Supercharger and we highlight more grassroots drivers in the In Focus section.
Chris Forsberg takes home the cover and a 2009 Formula Drift championship. He throws down a great interview with the Wrecked staff along with a Tires.com Triple Crown recap from the series won by Chris Forsberg. Our other feature story comes from DMCC champion Matt Waldin. We also kick off our Project 350z in the magazine!
The American Missile car cover features Am driver Steve Angerman and his super beat up S13 that we all love. The big story in this issue is all of the drama from the D1GP USA series that we document called “Drama, The Internet, and the First Season.” Kyle Mohan is the Industry Insider this month who tells us about the struggles of being a privateer in the series.
The cover was grabbed by the all new Team Falken which cut down on some drivers and brought in ASD to do some builds. The Wrecked staff sat on the sidelines while each driver of the new Team Falken interviewed each other to get a great feel of how the new team has come together. The interview Darren McNamara did with Ross Petty is for the interview hall of fame. Joon Maeng grabs a big write up as he takes his privateer warrior attitude to Formula D with his own S13. Tony Angelo is the new sheriff in town by being appointed the third Formula Drift judge starting at the beginning of the year.
Gearing up for the 2009 season we produced a confidential season preview unveiling all the new rides and team partnerships. Ryan Tuerck teams up with former drag racing team Gardella Racing who sets to make a debut in the sport this season. Our head editor Joey Redmond makes some bold predictions for the season coming up and the In Focus section highlights different Victories of Drift.
Another Am issue has arrived with Drift Alliance Ace Brian Wilkerson on the front cover with his Zombie Car S13. Inside the issue we present to you all the new licensed Formula D stars for the upcoming season. A huge section is the big introduction to the new DA Aces who interview each other and talk about where they are going in the future of our sport. We put Grassroots Drifting in America on our spotlight with the In Focus section this issue. Wrecked also packs up and moves out to California which Joey Redmond talks about in his editorial piece.
Justin Pawlak grabbed our cover by coming through the Pro Am ranks and winning Formula D Mexico. He then followed that up with a podium finish at Irwindale Speedway to complete a great run from his Pro Am roots. We sit down with the grassroots event master Brian Harte who started up the All-Star Bash event series at Willow Springs. One of the coolest features we have ever put together is in the Top 10 Wrecks in Formula Drift history. The In Focus section highlights some great MSC photos taken by Dino Dalle Carbonare. The issue wraps up with Bosch Performance Art with Vaughn Gittin Jr. in downtown Los Angeles.
Looking at the American Icon General Motors and its history in professional drifting leads this issue with a great in depth look at how they have changed the face of our sport. Sitting down next with Tanner Foust for one of his best interviews he has given to date. We complete the 2008 Formula Drift season review and visit Jacob Agajanian of MMI for our Industry Insider. We grab Vaughn Gittin Jr. for the Inside Scoop and head north to Canada for the In Focus section.
Jarod DeAnda wrote a guest editorial about 10 Tips For You At A Drift Event. We follow Formula Drift to the ends of the earth and cover the event in Singapore highlighting some of Southeast Asia’s greatest stars. The cover feature was a translated interview from former D1GP champion and Formula Drift star Ryuji Miki. Then we did a half season feature on Formula Drift. A Japan 101 guide was created to help any of your poor “gaijins” who are hoping to catch some drifting action over in the Far East. The Industry Insider features the founder and marketing director of Rogue Status.
Am driver Adam Szczuka from Tennessee is our first highlighted story in the issue talking about his journey as a grassroots driver and his graffiti S14. Then we turn to the Drift Alliance for the Stay Hungry movie premiere. We did some interviews with the four drivers on how they thought the movie came together. We brought back Cohorts for Simba Nyemba and Rob Ribter of Chicago. We look at the new cars that came out in 2008 and some D1GP footage of Fuji Speedway to close out Issue 4.
The first issue of 2008 opens up to a huge piece on the upcoming star Eric O'Sullivan. He wound up winning Rookie of the Year in 2009 and is now running with a professional team in Formula Drift. This article is a look at his career in Ireland. You can look at 2008 Formula Drift season predictions we made. The next story features A m driver Juan Henao from Southern Florida ripping it up in his S13. We also sit down with Ryan Sage and Jim Liaw in our Industry Insider section.
The first ever Am Issue opens up with John Yim talking about the transition from Grassroots to Pro. Then we feature Am driver from Memphis, TN Jerry Farabee competing at the Formula D Pro Am competition in Laughlin. We even caught a crazy on-car camera video of his accident. We interviewed all the licensed Am drivers including Justin Pawlak and Patrick Mordaunt who now run in Formula Drift. Then to celebrate the holidays you can check out Gifts Even Your Trashy Girlfriend Can Afford. To close out the issue we highlighted Ziptied All-Star Bash 2 and the 2007 SEMA Show.
The debut issue of Wrecked features Chris Cook on the cover and his flip over accident at NOPI Los Angeles. The Dodge Viper flipped over and landed on its roof in one of the most insane drifting wrecks of all time. The next piece is “The Great American Dance Party” which highlights when the Drift Alliance invaded DMCC for the Toronto event. We have a Cohorts section featuring Damien Bagley and Chelsea DeNofa as they write about how they feel about each other. Then one of our best stories in history is the Highway 481 Tortilla Fight featuring FD pro drivers Bill Sherman and Gary Lang.
