Inside the M2 Drift Competition lies a powerhouse at 1,100 hp and 922 ft-lbs of torque, numbers that easily dwarf what the road-going versions deliver. Every element of the build has been reworked: the twin-turbo S58, upgraded cooling systems, extensive chassis bracing, suspension, tires, and aerodynamic bits all work in tandem for drift excellence.
The car is purpose-built for drifting and the environment it was driven in underlines that ambition. Drifting between robot arms, packages, uneven factory floor surfaces and tight hallways meant everything had to be perfect. “For us, the biggest challenge drifting here in the confined spaces of the BMW hall was the logistics, including orientation. It's very winding here. And of course, its not a race track. There are no run-off areas here. If I ran the car into any machine, we’d have millions in damage,” Hountondji revealed after the stunt.

The idea of drifting through a production-line hall is dramatic and physically challenging. With floor surfaces changing, clearance tight, objects nearby, the M2 had to be brought in and maneuvered with millimeter precision. The result? Shredding inside an assembly plant, a contrast between German precision and drifting chaos.
Having completed its factory hall run, the M2 Drift Competition will be on display at BMW Welt in Munich, Germany from October 23rd to November 5th, allowing enthusiasts and the curious to see the machine up close. Beyond the display, the car is intended for future high-level drift competitions, and it paves the way for a potential drift-fleet under BMW M’s driving-experience programs.
